Assorted Random Things

Wow, I meant to make another post sooner than this! I've been a little unsure where people are, so I'm trying to follow Tumblr and Pillowfort and Dreamwidth, and I haven't been doing a great job of keeping up with them all lately. So here are some random things:
I'm not sure exactly what's going on with Tumblr. When you use it, it basically looks like nothing has changed--I assume I'm just not seeing a lot of the posts that I usually would. But one of my friends tried to link me to a specific tumblr post, and I got redirected to a screen that said, "this post may contain sensitive media." Apparently you can look at the sensitive media if you follow the person, but if you're trying to follow a link to a specific post, it doesn't work, just takes you to the whole blog. So that's...about as much of a mess as you'd expect.
On Wednesday I got to watch my tiny niece (2 months old!) for 4 or 5 hours, and it was unexpectedly delightful. While I didn't enjoy waking up at six, just spending more time than usual with her was really fun. I was afraid she would just cry and cry and I wouldn't be able to calm her down. But I was able to give her a bottle when she cried, or distract her by walking around with her or shaking a rattle, or change her diaper, and those things helped more than I expected. She even took a couple of naps, which made me feel great--I got the baby to sleep on me! She's gotten a lot more aware of her environment, looking at things, making eye contact and smiling. She hasn't figured out that she can hold things in her hands yet, although she does a lot of flailing with them and will grab onto a finger if you give it to her. Anyway, I might be watching her on Wednesdays as a regular thing, and I think I could actually handle that.
In other real life news, I'm going to upstate NY with my sister to see our parents for Christmas. It's probably going to be stressful. I actually have a job this year, so I'm only able to be there for four days, so hopefully it will be a manageable amount of stress.
Writing news: I have this post-Infinity War fic in progress where Bucky is a ghost, and I'm trying to figure out if I can actually finish it. I ran into some issues--I didn't feel like the ending I had planned was justified--so it might take me longer to get to that point. But it'd be great to actually finish something again! I haven't finished any fic since Ghosts and Liars, and I feel kind of bad about it.
My original novel is going...not so well. I've mostly been avoiding working on it, to be honest, in favor of working on the egregious giant AU of my own characters. This is the third or fourth ridiculous AU, and I think all the AUs combined are like 200,000 words? Ack. I might actually have to start over from scratch, because there's a lot about my current draft that I just don't like.
Also, I've been reading the Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin, and will probably make some kind of post about that when I finish it. (It's really good!)
